Facebook 'likes' and advert value doubted - BBC and Global News
June to August 2012
In June 2012, Michael began investigating paid Facebook 'likes' - when Facebook refused to co-operate with his report, he approached the BBC. The story covered around the world and divided opinion amongst marketers. Within 24 hours, Facebook suspended it's paid 'Like' platform and on the 2nd August acknowledged that there were an estimated 83m fake profiles on the social network. Read more

Small firms lose 'thousands' due to LinkedIn advertising bug - Business Zone
9th January 2013
Professional networking site LinkedIn admitted to a bug in its self-serve advertising platform which is costing UK businesses thousands of pounds, according to a social media expert. Mike Tinmouth, founder of social media consultancy TheSociaPro, identified a fault in the billing system on its advertising platform which meant that GB pounds were being displayed as the same value as US dollars. Facebook 'Likes' Inflated by Fake Accounts
13th July 2013
Just one of nearly 300 articles covering Michael's appearance on the BBC. Whilst many small businesses reported similar experience, many marketers supported by an aggressive PR campaign from Facebook attacked the methodology used. Two weeks after the report, Facebook acknowledged the issue in their SEC filing. Read more
